Theme: Sustaining the momentum: advocating for change
Celebrating the first-ever commitment to a National School Food Program in the recent federal budget, this interactive, action-orientated workshop will explore next steps to ensure that the best possible program is developed and funded in Canada, and how it can be complemented and supported by initiatives of F2S and others working across the country. Debbie Field, Coalition for Healthy School Food Coordinator, and other Coalition members will provide an overview of their efforts to date, and why they believe the federal government decided to join other G7 and most countries in the world in supporting school food. In addition, they will share details of the campaign, #NourishKidsNow- Invest in School Food.

The Coalition, a group of over 56 organizations from across Canada, is seeking an investment by the federal government in a cost-shared Universal Healthy School Food Program which will build on existing programs across the country. Its vision is for all schools to eventually serve a healthy meal or snack at little or no cost to students, enabling all students to have access to healthy meals at school every day.
