Debra is a food processing expert with over 35 years’ experience in all facets of the food industry. Passionate about food self-reliance and viable food systems, Debra helped develop the Produce Preservation Program, the precursor of PRESERVESafe. In 2018, Debra was awarded the Outstanding Regional Partnership Award by Diabetes Canada BC & Yukon Regional Awards Committee for her work in food skills development with Indigenous communities, and in 2017 she was recognized by the BC Food Processors Association with the Food Industry Leadership Award for exceptional leadership in the food industry. Debra loves teaching PRESERVESafe and helping trainers put on their own workshops. A single mother and avid gardener and preserver, Debra’s pantry is always full of good food.

Concerned about our society’s growing disconnection with the food supply Debra is in the midst of completing her Master of Arts in Professional Communication in order to advocate for place-based food production.
